What does this fault code mean?

The ECM reads the oil level sensor signal. The code is stored when that signal is too high or too low, or when two consecutive readings differ by an unreasonable amount. The causes are open circuits in the power supply, the signal wire or the earth lead, or a damaged oil level sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the power supply
    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Open circuit in the earth lead
    • Damaged oil level sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil level value in live data a few times with the engine running and see whether it jumps sharply between readings
    2. 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
    3. 3Check the connector to the oil level sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the power supply, signal wire and earth lead to the oil level sensor have no open circuit
    5. 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
