What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps track of the engine oil level and calculates an average value from it. The code is stored when that calculated average is incorrect. Possible causes are an oil level that is too low, poor contact or a damaged oil level sensor.
Possible causes
- Oil level too low
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals (see also ECM-P250A1C)
- Damaged oil level sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick and top up with the correct oil if it is low
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector to the oil level sensor for contact resistance and oxidation; clean and remedy it if needed
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the ignition on and see whether the fault is still active
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
