What does this fault code mean?
The oil level sensor sits in the oil pan and sends oil level information to the ECM. The code is stored when the oil level signal is abnormally low. Causes can be a very low oil level, a damaged sensor, or a signal cable shorted to supply voltage or to ground.
Possible causes
- Extremely low oil level
- Damaged oil level sensor
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage (see ECM-P250D00)
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground (see ECM-P250C00)
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick. If it is very low, top up the oil
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector to the oil level sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable from the oil level sensor is not short-circuited to plus or to ground (body)
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
