What does this fault code mean?
The ECM measures the voltage across the oil level sensor, whose resistance changes with the oil level. The code is stored when the control module detects a fault in that measurement. Possible causes are poor contact, a signal wire shorted to ground, an oil level that is too low or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Oil level too low
- Damaged oil level sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick. If it is too low, top up with the correct oil
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector to the oil level sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the oil level sensor is not shorted to plus and not to ground (body)
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
