What does this fault code mean?

The fault is recorded as intermittent, which means it may have been present without necessarily being present now. The ECM monitors the oil level with the sensor and stores the code when the signal is disturbed or when the oil level changes very quickly. This may be caused by an oil leak, poor contact or a damaged sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Rapid oil level change, for example from an oil leak
    • Loose plug, resistance or oxidation at the connections
    • Damaged oil level sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Check the engine for heavy oil leakage and for oil marks under the car
    2. 2Check the oil level with the dipstick. If it drops quickly between checks, this may be due to a leak
    3. 3Check the connector to the oil level sensor for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation; clean and remedy it if needed
    4. 4The test runs during road driving, so a test drive shows whether the fault is still there
    5. 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
