What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named oil level too low, it concerns the oil temperature sensor reading, which is judged unreasonable. Possible causes are an incorrect oil level or a damaged oil level sensor.
Possible causes
- Incorrect oil level
- Damaged oil level sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick and top up or drain oil if it does not match
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil temperature in live data with the engine running and see that it changes reasonably as the engine warms up
- 4Check the connectors to the oil temperature sensor and the oil level sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor and the oil temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
