What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module drives the A/C compressor solenoid with PWM through an internal power stage and monitors the signal at its output. The code is stored when the signal is too high.

Possible causes

Signal cable short-circuited to ground
Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
Ground wire shorted to supply voltage
Open circuit in the signal wire, ground wire or voltage supply
Damaged solenoid

What you can do

1Switch on A/C with the engine running and see whether the code returns
2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the A/C compressor is not short-circuited to plus
4Check that the ground cable to the A/C compressor is not shorted to plus and that the connectors are secure
5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the solenoid in the A/C compressor
