What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the brake vacuum sensor, which sits in the brake booster. The code is stored when the signal is too low for a certain period. Possible causes are a signal wire shorted to ground, an open circuit in the signal wire or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Damaged brake vacuum sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the brake vacuum sensor value in live data with the engine running and see whether it changes when the brake pedal is pressed
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector at the brake vacuum sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the brake vacuum sensor has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to ground (body)
- 5Have a workshop carry out the further checks of the brake vacuum sensor, since the brake booster is part of the braking system
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The automatic engine start/stop function is switched off
