What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the brake vacuum sensor reading, which sits in the power brake booster. The code is stored when the reading stays too high for a period. Possible causes are a signal wire shorted to supply voltage or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged brake vacuum sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the brake vacuum sensor value in live data with the engine running and see whether it is unusually high
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector at the brake vacuum sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the brake vacuum sensor is not short-circuited to plus
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake vacuum sensor, since it sits in the brake booster, which is part of the braking system
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The automatic engine start/stop function is switched off
