What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors engine oil level and temperature with a single sensor that reads oil quality, level and temperature. The code is stored when the PWM signal from that sensor is incorrect, and the fault can lie in the supply, the signal wire or the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Supply open or shorted to voltage, or the signal wire is open or shorted to voltage (see ECM-P252A17)
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections (see ECM-P252A1C)
- Damaged oil level sensor
- Voltage supply short-circuited to ground
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Intermittent open circuit in the signal wire (see ECM-P252A1C)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault status with the ignition on and see whether the fault is still active. If it is not, the fault may have been intermittent
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector to the combined sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the sensor has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to ground (body)
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the combined sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
