What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named a bus or message fault, it concerns the diesel concentration in the engine oil. During particle filter regeneration some diesel can dilute the oil, and the ECM calculates how much diesel is added to it. The code is stored when the concentration exceeds a certain value, and the causes are too high a diesel content in the oil or a supply short-circuited to ground.
Possible causes
- Too high a concentration of diesel in the engine oil
- Voltage supply short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick; it rises when the engine oil is diluted with diesel
- 2Change the engine oil. An excessive diesel content in the engine oil can damage the engine's components
- 3If this code is stored together with an oil level code, fault-trace them together, since they can have the same cause
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the sensor is not short-circuited to ground (body)
- 5If the fault remains after the oil change, have a workshop check the diesel content and the sensor
