What does this fault code mean?
The code is stored when the ECM judges the oil temperature sensor reading to be unreasonable, even though the code is named for a high oil level. The causes are given as an incorrect oil level or a damaged oil level sensor.
Possible causes
- Incorrect oil level
- Damaged oil level sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick and adjust it if needed
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil temperature in live data when the engine is cold and again when it is warm, and see whether the readings agree
- 4Check the connectors to the oil temperature sensor and the oil level sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil level sensor and the oil temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
