What does this fault code mean?
The electric brake vacuum pump helps the brake booster build up vacuum. The code is set when the pressure does not fall far enough within a certain time while the engine is running. The fault may lie in a leak, the relay, the pump or the non-return valve.
Possible causes
- Leak in the vacuum system
- Damaged relay
- Damaged pump
- Damaged non-return valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the hoses between the vacuum system and the brake booster are intact and firmly fitted, since a leak causes this fault
- 2Listen for hissing from hoses and connections while the engine runs
- 3Check the non-return valve in the vacuum system so that it does not let air through
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the vacuum pump and check that it runs
- 5If the brake pedal feels heavier than usual, do not keep driving; have a workshop fix the fault
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the relay and the pump
Symptoms you may notice2
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Brake pedal requires more effort than normal
