What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) requests a certain position for the turbo's guide vanes through a turbo control valve, and the position sensor measures where the vanes actually are. The code is set when the requested position does not match the measured one. Even though the code is named stuck low, it is the difference between requested and measured position that counts.
Possible causes
- Clogged hoses to the turbocharger or turbo control valve
- Damaged vacuum pressure sensor
- Damaged turbocharger
What you can do
- 1Check the hoses to the turbocharger and the turbo control valve for kinks, damage and blockages, since clogged hoses can cause this fault
- 2Check that the hoses are firmly attached and not pinched or loose
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the requested and measured guide vane positions in live data while the engine runs
- 4If the fault remains after the hoses are checked, have a workshop check the vacuum pressure sensor and the turbocharger
Symptoms you may notice3
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The car feels sluggish or lacks power
What the fault can affect2
- Engine output and speed are limited
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control stops
