What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) sends a signal to the turbo control valve that sets the guide vane position, and the position sensor reads back where the vanes are. The code is set when the two positions disagree. The name refers to a stuck high reading, but the code covers any mismatch between requested and measured position.
Possible causes
- Blocked hoses to the turbocharger and turbo control valve
- Faulty vacuum pressure sensor
- Faulty turbocharger
What you can do
- 1Check the hoses to the turbocharger and turbo control valve, since blocked hoses can give this fault
- 2Look along the hoses for pinching, kinks and loose connections
- 3With a diagnostic tool, compare the requested and measured guide vane position in live data with the engine running
- 4If the fault remains after the hoses are checked, have a workshop check the vacuum pressure sensor and the turbocharger
Symptoms you may notice3
- Check engine light indicates a fault or behaves abnormally
- Text and warning symbol in the display
- Driving feels poor or power is lacking
What the fault can affect2
- Engine power and speed are restricted
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is not controlled
