What does this fault code mean?
The fault is an electrical open circuit between the engine control module (ECM) and the coolant pump relay. The pump circulates coolant to the climate unit, particularly while automatic start/stop is active, and it is switched off while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Open circuit in the signal ground wire
- Damaged coolant pump relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the coolant pump are intact
- 2Look at the connector at the relay: a loose connection or oxidation causes the fault
- 3Follow the signal ground wire from the relay with a multimeter and look for a break
- 4With a diagnostic tool you can activate the coolant pump and see that it responds
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, a workshop needs to decide whether it lies in the relay
