What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps watch over the coolant pump relay and drives the pump through it to protect the pump from excessive current. The code is set when the link between the control module and the relay is shorted to ground. The coolant pump is then switched off.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the signal ground wire
- Damaged coolant pump relay
What you can do
- 1Check the fuses for the pump and relay
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the relay is not shorted to ground
- 3Check the connector at the relay for loose connections and oxidation
- 4Follow the signal ground wire and look for a break
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop decide whether the coolant pump relay is damaged
