What does this fault code mean?
The connection between the engine control module (ECM) and the coolant pump relay has been shorted to supply voltage. The module drives the pump through the relay and activates it at intervals to check whether the fault has cleared on its own. The pump is switched off while the fault is present, which can show up as uneven temperature.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged coolant pump relay
What you can do
- 1Check the connector at the relay for loose connections and oxidation
- 2Look for a short from the signal wire to supply voltage at the relay end with a multimeter
- 3Even if the fault clears by itself, check the wiring, since it can come back
- 4If the fault remains, a workshop should decide whether the relay needs replacing
