What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the time sent by the central electronic module (CEM) over the CAN network, meaning how long since the engine was last switched off, with its own calculated time. The code is set when the two differ too much. The fault may lie in the engine control module, the CEM or the CAN network.
Possible causes
- Malfunction found by another diagnostic function in the engine control module, such as the engine temperature sensor or the inlet air pressure sensor
- Malfunction found by the central electronic module (CEM)
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the CEM, the engine control module or another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the CEM and in other control modules that may have logged faults, and fix those first
- 2Do not erase this code until the codes in the CEM and other affected modules have been fixed and erased
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the connectors on the CAN network are firmly seated
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status and frozen values for this code to see when it last occurred
- 5If the code returns after repairs, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN network and the CEM
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module uses its own calculated time
