What does this fault code mean?
This code is set when the engine control module (ECM) receives no time at all from the central electronic module (CEM) over the CAN network. The module then uses its own calculated time instead, which is based on how the engine and intake air temperatures have changed.
Possible causes
- A fault that other diagnostics in the engine control module have found, e.g. on the engine temperature or intake air pressure sensor
- A fault that the CEM has found itself
- Break in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the CEM, the engine control module or another module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the CEM and fix the ones found there first, since this code may be caused by them
- 2Check that the connectors on the CAN network are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break and are not shorted
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check that the CEM can communicate with the tool
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment find which control module on the CAN network disturbs the communication
