What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the output of the throttle unit's position sensor. Even though the code is named low, it also applies when the signal is too high. The code is set when the sensor signal is too high or too low, and the cause may lie in connections, wiring or the throttle unit itself.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact at the connections
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Open circuit on the signal ground wire
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition on and read whether the code is active now or only stored
- 2Check the throttle unit connector for contact resistance, oxidation and poor contact
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not connected to positive supply
- 4Check the signal ground wire for a break
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the throttle position value in live data while you press the accelerator slowly, and see that the value changes smoothly
- 6If nothing is found, have a workshop check the throttle unit, which may be damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
