What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns the sensor in the throttle unit and is set when the engine control module sees a signal that is either too high or too low. Despite the name high, it also covers a signal that is too low.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact at the connections
- Open circuit or short to ground on the supply to the sensor
- Open circuit or short to ground on the signal wire to the sensor
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, read whether the code is active or only stored
- 2Check the throttle unit connector for contact resistance, oxidation and looseness
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the sensor has no break and is not shorted to ground
- 4Check the signal wire to the sensor for a break and for a short to ground
- 5With a diagnostic tool you can follow the throttle position value in live data while the engine idles and you raise the revs gently
- 6If none of this finds anything, have a workshop check the throttle unit
