What does this fault code mean?

The ECM monitors the control signal that goes to the fuel pump control module (PEM). This code concerns fuel pump B and is set when there is a fault in that control signal, which can come from wiring, the supply feed or the control module itself.

    Possible causes

    • A fault that the CEM has logged itself
    • Signal wire shorted to ground
    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Break in the voltage feed between the CEM and the fuel pump control module
    • Damaged fuel pump control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the codes in the CEM, since a fault registered there can cause this code
    2. 2Check that the fuse for the fuel pump and the supply to the control module are intact
    3. 3Use a multimeter to check that the control signal wire is not shorted to ground
    4. 4Check the wiring and connectors between the CEM and the fuel pump control module for chafing and breaks
    5. 5If nothing is found, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel pump control module

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Engine cranks but does not start
    • Engine stalls while driving, at unpredictable times or all the time

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
