What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) regulates fuel pressure through the fuel pump control module using a PWM signal. The code is set when the regulation reaches its lowest value and the wanted fuel pressure is still not reached. The cause may lie in the fuel lines, the pressure sensor, the pump or the pump control module.
Possible causes
- Leakage in the fuel lines
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump
- Damaged fuel pump control module
What you can do
- 1Deal first with any stored codes for the fuel pressure sensor or the atmospheric pressure sensor
- 2Check that there is enough fuel in the tank, since an almost empty tank can give too low a pressure
- 3Look at the fuel hoses and the fuel filter for clogging and leaks
- 4Check the connectors between the fuel pump control module and the fuel pump for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Check the fuel pressure sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 6If nothing is found, have a workshop measure the fuel pressure and decide whether the pump, the pressure sensor or the control module needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- Driving feels poor or the car lacks power
- Engine stalls while driving, at unpredictable times or all the time
- Engine stalls at idle, at unpredictable times or all the time
- Engine stalls when starting
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
