What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the glow plugs via glow plug control module 1. The code is set when the glow plug module's own temperature reading is too high. This can be caused by an ambient temperature that is too high or by a damaged glow plug control unit, and the glow plugs are then limited.
Possible causes
- Ambient temperature too high
- Damaged glow plug control unit
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, read whether the code is active or only stored
- 2Let the car cool down and then start it again to see whether the code returns
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the glow plug module temperature in live data while the engine is cold
- 4If the code returns once the glow plug module has cooled, have a workshop decide whether it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- Starting becomes harder in cold weather
What the fault can affect1
- Glow plug operation is limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
