What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps an eye on the cooling valves and works them electrically through a vacuum device. The valves limit the coolant volume near the engine so that the engine warms up faster and heat reaches the cabin sooner. Even though the code is named bypass valve, the open circuit concerns the connection to the coolant pump relay.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Open circuit on the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Check the connector at the coolant pump relay for loose connections and oxidation
- 2Follow the signal wire between the engine control module and the coolant pump relay and look for a break with a multimeter
- 3Check the fuses for the coolant pump and the relay
- 4With a diagnostic tool you can test the coolant pump by activating it
- 5If nothing is found, have a workshop decide whether the fault lies in the relay or the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
