What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) drives a solenoid for the bypass control valve, which helps regulate engine temperature more effectively. The code is set when the control module finds an open circuit between itself and that solenoid.
Possible causes
- Damaged solenoid
- Open circuit on the signal wire
- Damaged connector
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse that supplies the solenoid and the bypass valve
- 2Check the connector at the solenoid for damage and loose contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the solenoid is continuous
- 4With a diagnostic tool you can control the solenoid and see whether it responds
- 5If nothing is found, have a workshop decide whether the solenoid or the engine control module is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
