What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps an eye on the cooling valves and works them electrically through a vacuum device. The code is set when the signal wire between the control module and the valve circuit has been short-circuited to ground.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Check the connector for loose contacts and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground
- 3Check the wire for chafing that could let it touch the body earth
- 4With a diagnostic tool you can activate the valve and see whether it responds
- 5If nothing is found, have a workshop decide whether the fault lies in the wiring or the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The car feels sluggish or lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- The coolant pump runs continuously
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
