What does this fault code mean?
The bypass valve solenoid is driven by the engine control module (ECM) and is used to regulate engine temperature more efficiently. When the solenoid is activated and the signal reads too low, the code is set. The fault may come from a signal wire shorted to ground, a damaged solenoid, a damaged connector or the engine control module.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged solenoid
- Damaged connector
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check the connector at the solenoid for damage and loose contacts
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the solenoid has no contact with ground
- 3Check the wire for chafing that could touch the body earth
- 4With a diagnostic tool, activate the solenoid to test it
- 5If nothing is found, have a workshop decide whether the solenoid or the engine control module is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
