What does this fault code mean?
The ECM operates the cooling valves electrically through a vacuum device, and the valves limit the coolant volume near the engine so it warms up faster. The code name refers to the bypass valve, but the condition concerns the connection to the coolant pump relay, which has been shorted to supply voltage.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Check the connector at the coolant pump relay for loose connections and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the relay has no contact with the positive supply
- 3Check the fuses for the coolant pump and the relay
- 4If nothing is found, have a workshop decide whether the fault lies in the wiring or in the relay
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
