What does this fault code mean?

The fuel filter is warmed by an electric heater that the ECM controls, because diesel adapted to a warm climate can clog the filter in cold conditions. This code is set when the connections to the fuel filter heater have an open circuit, and then the heating is switched off.

    Possible causes

    • Loose contact or oxidation at the terminals
    • Break in the wiring to the fuel filter heater

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuse for the fuel filter heater is intact
    2. 2Check the connections to the fuel filter heater for loose contacts and oxidation
    3. 3Follow the wiring to the fuel filter heater with a multimeter and look for a break
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the status of the fuel filter heater in live data, if it is available there
    5. 5If nothing is found, have a workshop check the fuel filter heater and its connections

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • Engine does not start, only cranks
    • Engine hard to start and cranks slowly in cold weather
    • Engine hard to start and cranks slowly, at unpredictable times or all the time

    What the fault can affect1

    • Fuel filter heating is switched off

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
