What does this fault code mean?
The fuel filter heater is controlled by the engine control module (ECM) through control signals. The code is set when the cable to the heater is shorted to ground, and poor connections can also cause the fault. The heating is then switched off.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation at the connections
- Cable shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the fuel filter heater is intact
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the heater has no contact with ground
- 3Check the connectors at the heater for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the fuel filter heater to see whether it responds
- 5If nothing is found, have a workshop check the heater and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine does not start, only cranks
- Engine hard to start and cranks slowly in cold weather
- Engine hard to start and cranks slowly, at unpredictable times or all the time
- Uneven idle
What the fault can affect1
- Fuel filter heating is switched off
