What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls two exhaust dampers, one for each exhaust bank, which affect the engine sound. The code concerns the circuit for damper A and is set when the signal to the damper is missing.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- The damaged exhaust damper
- Exhaust damper A is on the right-hand side as seen in the direction of travel
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their location is shown in the owner's manual
- 2Check that the connector to damper A is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to damper A has no break to the engine control module
- 4With a diagnostic tool you can activate damper A and listen for it moving
- 5Have a workshop check damper A if the fault remains after the connector and wiring checks
Symptoms you may notice3
- Unusual noise while driving, sometimes or all the time
- Unusual noise when the engine is switched off
- Unusual noise during acceleration
