What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when exhaust damper A has stuck between the open and closed positions, which the engine control module (ECM) detects as a performance fault. The damper is driven by the same signal as the other damper, so the fault concerns damper A in particular.
Possible causes
- The exhaust damper is damaged
- The exhaust damper has stuck
- Exhaust damper A is on the right-hand side as seen in the direction of travel
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their location is shown in the owner's manual
- 2On a test drive, listen for unusual exhaust noise when the throttle is varied and when the engine is switched off
- 3Have a workshop check that damper A moves freely, since it may have stuck or be damaged
- 4With a diagnostic tool, activate damper A and see in live data whether the damper position changes
Symptoms you may notice3
- Unusual noise while driving, sometimes or all the time
- Unusual noise when the engine is switched off
- Unusual noise during acceleration
