What does this fault code mean?
Even though the code is named internal system faults, it concerns the information from exhaust damper A, which the engine control module (ECM) judges to be incorrect or unreasonable. The cause may be a damaged damper or a damper that has stuck.
Possible causes
- The exhaust damper is damaged
- The exhaust damper has stuck
- Exhaust damper A is on the right-hand side as seen in the direction of travel
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their location is shown in the owner's manual
- 2On a test drive, listen for unusual exhaust noise while the throttle is varied
- 3Have a workshop check damper A, since a wrong or unreasonable signal from it cannot be judged with a simple test
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the damper value in live data at idle and see whether it stays still
Symptoms you may notice3
- Unusual noise while driving, sometimes or all the time
- Unusual noise when the engine is switched off
- Unusual noise during acceleration
