What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls two exhaust dampers that affect the engine sound, and the code concerns the circuit to damper B. It is set when the signal to the damper is missing, and behind that is often an open wire, poor contact or a damaged damper. Damper B is on the left-hand side in the direction of travel.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged exhaust damper
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their location is shown in the owner's manual
- 2Check the connector to damper B: it should be secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to damper B has no break to the engine control module
- 4With a diagnostic tool, activate damper B and check in live data whether the value changes
- 5Have a workshop check damper B if the fault remains after the connector and wiring checks
Symptoms you may notice3
- Unusual noise while driving, sometimes or all the time
- Unusual noise when the engine is switched off
- Unusual noise during acceleration
