What does this fault code mean?
Even though the code is named high voltage, it concerns current in the pump circuit of the oxygen sensor when the sensor is cold. The engine control module (ECM) sets the code if it finds current there, that is leakage current or flashover, and this happens at engine start.
Possible causes
- Short circuit or flashover in the pump circuit wiring
- Damaged oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Start the engine and read the fault status; if the code is not active, the fault may have disappeared temporarily
- 3Look for chafed, damp or burnt wiring at the oxygen sensor that could cause a flashover
- 4Have a workshop check the oxygen sensor, since it may be damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
