What does this fault code mean?
The code means that the oxygen sensor signal stays constantly low. The engine control module (ECM) calculates the sensor temperature from its internal resistance, and the code is set when the calculated value is incorrect. It is tested with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the signal wires
- Internal fault in the ECM
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Check the connectors at the oxygen sensor for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires are not shorted to each other
- 4Look for chafed wiring at the oxygen sensor where the signal wires may have touched each other
- 5Have a workshop check the oxygen sensor and the engine control module, since an internal fault in the module is a possible cause
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
