What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the ground wire for the oxygen sensor on bank 1, sensor 1. The engine control module (ECM) checks the sensor's signal ground, and the code is set when it is incorrect.
Possible causes
- Ground wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged oxygen sensor
- Ground wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the ground wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Check the connections at the oxygen sensor and at the engine control module for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the ground wire has no break and no contact with positive supply
- 4Have a workshop check the oxygen sensor if the fault remains after the connection check
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
