What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the electric coolant pump, which has an internal check that the pump does not run dry. It is set when the engine control module (ECM) receives a fault signal from the pump, and the causes are a low coolant level or air in the cooling system.
Possible causes
- Low coolant level
- Air in the cooling system
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Check the coolant level in the expansion tank when the engine is cold
- 3Look for signs of coolant leaking under the car and at the hoses, since a low level has a cause
- 4Top up with the right type of coolant if the level is too low, but do not open the cooling system while the engine is hot
- 5Have a workshop bleed the cooling system if air has got into it
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The pump motor overheats
