What does this fault code mean?
Even though the code is named emergency run switch, it concerns the status of the electric water pump. The engine control module (ECM) compares its control signal with the signal from the pump, and the code is set when they do not match.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged water pump
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Check the connectors to the water pump for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the water pump and see whether it starts
- 4Have a workshop check the pump if the fault remains, since a damaged water pump is a possible cause
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- If communication with the water pump is missing, the pump is turned off to protect it from overheating
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
