What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the engine control module does not receive any message from the brake control module (BCM), that is when the communication between them stops. The cruise control then cannot be engaged.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable shorted to ground
- Communication cable shorted to voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and see whether it is active or only stored
- 2The brake system is safety critical, so have a workshop check the brake control module if the fault remains
- 3Gently pull on the connectors to the brake control module and the engine control module and see whether the code or the cruise control is affected
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the communication cable between the brake control module and the engine control module has no break and no contact with ground or voltage
- 5After the battery has been disconnected, press the brake pedal for a few seconds with the engine running so that cruise control comes back
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is disengaged for as long as the fault is active
