What does this fault code mean?
The ECM gets a torque request signal from the transmission control module (TCM). Even though the code is named invalid data, it applies when the signal is missing, and the code can be a follow-on fault if the transmission control module has a code of its own.
Possible causes
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the engine control module; if there are other CAN-related codes, fault-trace those first
- 2Read the codes in the transmission control module (TCM), since a code there may be the root cause
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: clear the code, drive for a while and read whether it is set again
- 4Have a workshop check the transmission control module if the code returns, since it may be damaged
- 5Tell the workshop if any control module has recently been replaced, since its software then has to be reloaded
Symptoms you may notice1
- The automatic gearbox shifts hard or jerkily, sometimes or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- Torque requests from the transmission control module (TCM) are no longer used by the ECM
