What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the P and N signals from the gear position sensor, which reach it over the CAN network from the transmission control module (TCM). Even though the code is named sequence counter, it concerns the P and N signals. The code is set when they are missing or incorrect, and then auto start does not work.
Possible causes
- Faulty CAN communication
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2If the engine control module has other CAN-related codes stored, fault-trace those first
- 3This code points to a transmission control module (TCM) fault, so read the codes there
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the selector position in live data while you select P and N, and check that it shows correctly
- 5Have a workshop check the transmission control module and the CAN communication if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- Auto start does not work
