What does this fault code mean?
The ECM expects a torque request from the TCM and sets the code when it is missing. The code may be a follow-on fault: if the transmission control module has a code of its own, that one should be fault-traced first.
Possible causes
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the transmission control module (TCM) first, since they may show the root cause
- 2Read the codes in the engine control module and deal with any other CAN-related codes before this one
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires between the engine control module and the transmission control module have no break
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: clear the code only after the root fault has been fixed, then check that it is not set again
- 5Have a workshop check the transmission control module if the code returns after the root cause has been fixed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The automatic gearbox shifts hard or jerkily all the time
What the fault can affect1
- Torque requests from the transmission control module (TCM) are no longer used by the ECM
