What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) constantly receives the information it needs from the Forward Sensing Module (FSM) over the CAN network, and uses it to provide brake support when there is a risk of collision. The code is set when communication with the FSM stops.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable shorted to ground or voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- The fault may lie in the Forward Sensing Module (FSM)
- The fault may lie in the central electronic module (CEM)
- The software is not upgraded
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM), since it monitors the voltage on the CAN network
- 3Check the connectors at the engine control module and at the forward sensing module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the communication cable to the forward sensing module has no break and no contact with ground or voltage
- 5City Safety is part of the car's safety systems, so have a workshop check the forward sensing module if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice3
- Cruise control does not engage
- Cruise control does not work at all
- City Safety does not work or does not intervene
What the fault can affect2
- Cruise control is disengaged for as long as the fault is active
- The City Safety function is switched off
