What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives the information it needs from the forward sensing module (FSM) over the CAN network, and the code is set when communication with the FSM stops. so fault-tracing starts with the FSM.
Possible causes
- The fault may lie in the forward sensing module (FSM)
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Communication cable shorted to ground or voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- The engine control module is not intended for the car, for example a used module with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and see whether it is active or only stored
- 2Read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since they may show a common fault in the network
- 3Check that the connectors to the forward sensing module and to the engine control module are secure and clean
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the forward sensing module has no break and no contact with ground or voltage
- 5Have a workshop check the forward sensing module, since it is part of the car's safety systems
