What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the communication with glow plug control module 1, which controls the glow plugs when starting. The code is set when a message from the glow plug control module is missing, and it is checked after the engine has run for a while.
Possible causes
- Damaged cables or connectors
- Damaged glow plug control unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and see whether it is active or only stored
- 2Check that the connectors to the glow plug control module and to the engine control module are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Look for chafed wiring to the glow plug control module and use a multimeter to check that it has no break
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the glow plugs and see or listen whether the module responds
- 5Have a workshop check the glow plug control module if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly, sometimes or all the time
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly on a cold start
