What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the fuel pre-pump in the tank, which is controlled by the central electronic module (CEM) through a relay. The ECM gets pre-pump data over the CAN network and sets the code when there is a fault on both the pre-pump and the fuel pressure at the same time.
Possible causes
- Other codes in the fuel system, which should be fault-traced first
- The fault may lie in the central electronic module (CEM)
- The fault may lie in the CAN network
- Fault on the pre-pump or its connectors
- Open circuit or interference on one or both CAN wires
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool and check whether it is active or only stored
- 2Fault-trace the other fuel system codes first, since they may show the cause
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their location is shown in the owner's manual
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the pre-pump and listen for it to start running
- 5Have a workshop check the pre-pump and its connectors if the fault remains, since the pump sits in the fuel tank
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine does not start, either sometimes or all the time
- The engine hesitates or surges on acceleration
- The engine stalls, for example at steady speed and when slowing down
