What does this fault code mean?
Even though the code is named lost communication with the drive motor control module, it concerns the communication with the alternator control module (ACM) over the LIN network. The engine control module (ECM) sets the code when it detects a fault in that communication, and then the charging warning may light up.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged alternator control module (ACM)
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Read the code with a diagnostic tool while the engine is running, since the fault is checked then
- 2Check the connectors at the alternator and at the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Look for chafed wiring on the signal wire between the engine control module and the alternator control module
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break
- 5Have a workshop check the alternator control module if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- Charging warning light comes on or behaves abnormally
